Tech Dive Academy Port Douglas was founded by the same team who set the World Record (at the time) for the deepest ever open ocean dive on scuba by descending past 300m (1000ft) to 308m on November 6, 2001.

The founding team included John, Mark, Ron and Targa.

They had been brought together by expert deep diver John Bennett who had previously founded Atlantis Tech in the Philippines, and had surrounded himself with a team for his year 2000 solo dive to 254m (that stood as the world record for depth on open circuit scuba in the open ocean) in the beautiful waters off Puerto Galera on the island of Mindoro in the Philippines.
