Tasmania with a Difference

Coffee BreakWith the amazing success of our Luxe Expedition Dive Travel, which we introduced in 2019, we have had demand from our Australian based customers over the past 18 months to develop and offer domestic Luxe Expeditions while international travel remains limited.

We’ve introduced a unique handful of very special Luxe Dive Expeditions within Australia during 2021, and we thought we’d give you a quick look at one – Tasmania – this is our COLD WATER speciality!

Air Tours Tasmania

This is a particularly fun and laidback trip designed for those who enjoy diving, good food, wine, whiskey and the outdoors – it includes land, sea and air based components.

With a focus on the South and Eastern Coasts of Tasmania, we visit some amazing locations on land and in the ocean, over 18 days.

Quick SnackCurrently, due to flight routing we are flying to Hobart via Adelaide, so there is a bonus overnight wine and food experience, and we even find time to visit the Adelaide markets before transferring by Business Class to Tasmania.

The trip is timed to include visits to both Hobart’s Salamanca and Launceston’s Farmers Markets. A foodie delight.

Often considered comparable to parts of New Zealand, we take in Hobart, Port Arthur, Launceston, Bay of Fires, Cradle Mountain, Freycinet, and in fact the entire eastern seaboard of Tasmania.

McHenry DistilleryOn our latest expedition we were whisked straight from the airport by private helicopter charter, for a day of Vineyards, Distilleries and sightseeing from the air. Flying through the mist to land mountain top next to McHenry Distillery’s spring made for a spectacular start. Following a private tour and tasting of their Whiskeys, Vodka and Gin, we left feeling like part of the family and flew via Port Arthur and sightseeing to Bangor Vineyard for a private tasting and lunch. The afternoon was capped off with a personal owner’s tour of Shene Distillery, visiting their amazing historical buildings, cooperage, and distillery, before flying back to the Hobart Waterfront, not a bad first day one could say.McHenry - Self Service

Over the next two weeks, the Expedition visits our hand-picked restaurants each night including The black footed pig, Hallams, Stillwater, Templo to name a few. Of course no trip to Tasmania would be complete without a visit to MONA, transfers via the ‘Posh Pit’ experience of course! Other highlights beyond the amazing cold water diving (at some secret spots I might add) included hiking at Cradle Mountain (we ran into Bindy and family this trip), pre-dive breakfast (Oysters) on the beach, Creameries for cheese tastings, several more wineries and distilleries (including Lark and Sullivan’s Cove), a spot of Caving and as the latest Tasmanian Tourism campaign says “come down for some air”. We certainly did. Of course we have Nitrox and Trimix available on the boat too.

We rounded out the 18 days, with two nights on land at Piermont Retreat, exploring a local oyster and mussel farm (nothing fresher), hiking the national parks and a final farewell to Tasmania at Frogmore Estate for lunch and a final wine tasting, before departing with Qantas.
